The client called Steve Yett frantic. They had completely demolished the attic, trying to make living space out of it. The head building inspector happened to drive by while they were carrying out volumes of demolition material. The existing space had inadequate headroom, except where a small Bristolite skylight was at the center. The house was deed-restricted not to be any taller than this skylite, so raising the attic height was not an option. Immediately Steve came up with the idea of calling the project a skylight replacement, replacing the small existing two foot by six foot off-the-shelf skylight with a huge twelve foot by twenty four foot structural skylight. “It was one of the most singularly elegant, simple solutions I ever came up with. The house went from having a sliver of an ocean view to having a 180 degree ocean view.”
